Dogs have oils on their skin. Oils that will transfer to the carpet where they sleep and lay all of the time. To prevent this damage try to get your pet to sleep in a dog bed or a blanket. Also bath them often to keep the oil from building up on their body. One final way that dogs can harm your carpet is by chewing on rawhide. Plain rawhide is not to bad but can cause damage from your dogs saliva. If they chew too aggressively they can also cause their gums to bleed which will end up leaving blood on your carpet. The real problem with rawhide however is from the flavored variety. Do not let your pet have these indoors as the dyes will quickly transfer to your carpet and may become permanent. Dogs can cause a great deal of damage to your carpet but like any animal lover will tell you, they are worth it. Try to prevent the damage as best you can and hopefully you will have a happy pet and a long lasting carpet. Remember to clean your carpet regularly as well.
